A story of an Amazon princess who comes to the world of Man to become the greatest of the female superheroes.
Congratulations to “Wonder Woman”. It has officially made it to of the top five highest grossing superhero films of all time. Safe to say, Wonder woman has made more money domestically than the first movie to bring Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man together. “Wonder Woman’s” total gross in North America reached $409.5 million, passing the $408 million made last year by “Captain America: Civil War” and $409 million by “Iron Man 3.”
It now officially joins the elite club where we have films like “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Etc.
With big crossover spectacles like “Justice League” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on the horizon, it’s likely that “Wonder Woman’s” time in the top five won’t last long. But even after “Infinity War” pushes it down the list, the champion of Themyscira has another box office record that’s likely to last much longer: the highest multiple for any superhero film.
With a $103 million opening, “Wonder Woman” currently has a multiple of 3.97x, a level near impossible for a film with a $100 million-plus opening to reach. For comparison, “The Avengers” has a 3x multiple, “The Dark Knight Rises” has 3.37x, and the first “Spider-Man,” which grossed $403 million in 2002 after a $114 million opening, has a 3.53x multiple. Patty Jenkins’ film has shown incredible staying power, which is why it’s still breaking records three months after it first hit theaters.
